mindful beginnings

And suddenly you know:

It's time to start something new and trust the magic of beginnings.

Meister Eckhart

This programme is an introduction to various mindfulness, pre-meditation (to prepare the mind) and meditation practices and concepts; it is meant to be a very practical and applicable approach.

The group meets every week for ten two-hour sessions.

  1. Living in our body
  2. Landing in the present

  4. Welcoming and letting go
  5. Just Being - Action through non-reaction
  6. Spotlights on Thoughts
  7. Learning about our centres
  8. Getting to know our emotional centre
  9. Looking at two aspects of our emotional lives: boredom and self-nurture
  10. Now what?

Awareness Reading

How do you keep from being negatively affected by the news?

Jon Kabat-Zinn suggests among other things taking a "news fast" i.e. a time when you don't read, don't watch and don't listen to the news.

The first thing you discover is

a kind of emptiness,

a silence,

a presence which doesn't seem to have content to it,

like looking up at a limitless sky.

That boundary-less place

inside you

is your own consciousness,

your awareness.

When you relax into it,

you realize that it's also full -

it is everything.

You realize this presence is

what you really are: Love.

For last year's words belong to last year's language
And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.

T.S. Eliot, Little Gidding
