mindful family children programmes ages 5-11

aims of our programmes

The aims of the Mindful Family children programmes are:

discovering an inner place with calmness and silence

appreciating that life happens, whether we consider it good or maybe not so good.

accepting and observing all kind of emotions, seeing they are just events and letting them go

recognising anger and hurt for example, and developing healthy habits to deal with these difficulties.

noticing others’ feelings, growing empathy and compassion

embracing joy in the present moment

All this is done by sharing activities and learning from them directly by personal experience.

"What day is it?" asked Pooh

"It's today." Squeaked Piglet.

"My favourite day" said Pooh.

plan of a mindful family children session - the learnt experience

Life is a succession of lessons which must be live to be understood.

Helen Keller

Each session is designed to offer an opportunity for the children to learn through their own personal experience in order to "take it home and let it sink in ". It includes:

  • A beginning activity to enter our quiet space
  • meditation time
  • Several activities supporting the theme and the concept to be introduced and learn
  • A group sharing time
  • A closing time that introduces our home practice for the week.

The first thing you discover is

a kind of emptiness,

a silence,

a presence which doesn't seem to have content to it,

like looking up at a limitless sky.

That boundary-less place

inside you

is your own consciousness,

your awareness.

When you relax into it,

you realize that it's also full -

it is everything.

You realize this presence is

what you really are: Love.

And next year's words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.
